Tlalpujahua es un pueblo de origen prehispánico, cuyas raíces en nahua son: “Tlalli”, Tierra, y “Poxohuac”, cosa esponjosa o fofa; por lo que se traduce como “tierra esponjosa o fofa”. Hermosa y rica región en las montañas. Puerta de lujo de Michoacán. Antiguo centro minero de gran influencia en amplia región del centro del país. En 1558 recibió la influencia de españoles por la minería y se dio el título de Real de Minas de Tlalpujahua.
