She was born to Don Thomas Emett and Rhoda Tait Barnum, the oldest of their 12 children. She married Leonard Leroy Thompson. they first lived in Great Falls, then in 1930 moved to Helena, Montana.They had 2 sons: Lenonard Douglas and Don James.
