From the Clinton Courier, New York, August 4, 1982: Mrs.Gertrude M. Lafferty, 89, of Whitesboro, NY and formerly of Largo, Florida,died August 2, 1982 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Utica. She was born in Newport, (Herkimer County) NY, a daughter of Michael and Ellen Barry McMahon. She attended Utica Free Academy. She married Arthur M. Barnum in 1918 in Utica. He died in 1948. She later married Thomas M. Lafferty in 1952 in Utica. He died in 1976. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harold H. (Lois) Luther of Watertown; three sons, Donald A. Barnum of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Alan R. Barnum of Whitesboro and Ted M. Barnum of Rome; two step children and several grandchildren. Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery.
