Notes for Olynde Grace EBEL

Olinda's brothers, Jacob & Conrad, listed their birthplace as Stavropol, Russia, & Olinda's border crossing manifest stated that her grandmother lived at Friedrichsfeld. Friedrichsfeld village was an evangelical (Lutheran) colony founded in 1885. It is located northeast of Stavropol in Stavropol krai (province) and in the Stavropol church district.

In 1908 Olinda's father, George J. Ebel, his second wife and their three children immigrated to the US. A year later the children of his first marriage, including Olinda, also came to America.

In the 1910 US Census for Durham City, Durham Park Township, Marion, Kansas Olinda's father was enumerated together with his second wife, Catherine, and their three children. Catherine was Olinda's stepmother, whom her father had married in Russia in about 1902/1903. Olinda's birth mother had likely died about 1902, after the birth of Olinda's sister Mary.
